About Workshop:
Materials' testing is the specialized area of Civil Engineering that deals with the properties and science of materials, specically construction materials which also includes Geo and Structural materials. The materials engineering laboratory deals primarily with testing, evaluating, and monitoring materials and processes used in construction. This workshop aims to provide the basic platform for the nal year & pre-nal year Civil Engineering students with respect to different testing on Geo and Structural materials and their instrumentation, equipments etc.
Experimental studies on Geo and Structural Materials is the need of the hour for the betterment of the students in terms of their practical knowledge rather than theoretical knowledge. This will enhance the student's potential as one of the step stone, who have an aim for higher studies, appearing for competitive examinations, facing industrial needs etc,.
Also this will have a great bearing on the exposure of unique facilities available in the department of Civil Engineering in SRM IST to Engineering students and subsequent higher studies of young graduating Engineers in institution across the country. Similarly, there is an urgent need to prepare Engineering students for jobs in multinational companies, by exposing them to newer Technologies and Engineering methodologies. These objectives can only be achieved well by bridging the gap between practical and the theoretical knowledge.
Who Can Attend: Undergraduate Final Year And Pre-Final Year Students Of Civil Engineering (Maximum Of Six Students Per Institution)
Course Objective: The workshop aims to spread the unique facilities used for the practical training in Geosynthetics and Structural materials in the department of Civil Engineering, SRM IST. This allows introduction of new research in institutes and state of the art techniques adopted. It provides hands on training on Soil strength characteristic, Geo synthetic properties and also provides hands on training on Special concrete using M-sand and coconut shell aggregates. It entail participation of student in technical education programmes and academia research, with a view to gain the advantage of fer tilized ideas for system improvement. It also helps the participants to get acquainted with material testing practices and their integration in technical knowledge and their implementation aspects.
